Beyond day-to-day rentals, SHF manages larger initiatives that improve housing across Sint Eustatius. Here's what's currently underway.
SHF is managing the renovation of homes across the island to keep them safe, sound, and comfortable for the families who live in them. Work covers everything from structural repairs to essential upgrades, prioritised by need.
This project is financed by VRO, the Dutch Ministry of Housing and Spatial Planning — SHF's role is to manage and carry out the renovations on the ground.
Known locally as the "Old School" building, this property has stood vacant since a fire in 2018. SHF is now restoring it with funding secured through the Volkshuisvestingfonds, bringing the building back into use for the island.
Following a successful pilot that supported 44 families, SHF, Statia Government, and the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations have signed an agreement to continue the housing allowance programme through 2029, with up to 100 households expected to benefit in this next phase.
The programme helps lower-income households who rent privately and don't yet have access to social housing, by reducing their housing costs. SHF handles the day-to-day execution and administration, while the Ministry continues to finance the programme and Statia Government supports policy coordination and oversight.
